Thursday 26-10:

We left home at about 15.30 H. for Europoort for the ferry to Hull.

The ferry

our cabin 10237

 We met Jens & Jens on the ferry (who gave us a wrong mobile number,  so I called somene who was also called Jens, which was very confusing  ;-) )
 and we already came in the Eurocon spirit!

 Friday morning we drove together to Jon`s house, who made lunch. There we met some of the others and we all drove to the venue.

 After unloading our car, the gaming & talking could begin!
 Everyone joined in the course of the evening.

The organisers handed out goodie-bags.
With 2 Retrofusion magazines and some useful flyers.

Paul & Sijmen: 'guitar heroes'
Jon brought his PS2 with Guitar Hero
which is excellent!!
We couldn`t stop playing that.

 I want a PS2 for a long time because
of the eyetoy and singstar, but Sijmen
thought it can wait for my birthday.
But after playing this, we are gonna
buy the whole lot  a.s.a.p.!
(well, not everything, we are gonna keep something to ask for my birthday)

Keith brought these 2 nice cabinets to play on.
Friday evening they scheduled the 'WHO WANTS TO BE A MILLIONAIRE' quiz.
Jon made an excellent version of this, with all game-related questions.
The questions were sometimes very tough.
Rene made it to the highest score. ( 125.000, 3 questions from 1 million )

SATURDAY 27-10
Trade session.

Saturday began with the trade session. We all could trade items before the doors opened to the public at 11.00 H.
We traded some nice items, thanks everyone!

This beauty I bought from Keith

prototype 2600 carts

TV/radio was present to do a coverage of the day.

Mat being interviewd

Playing Spikes Circus, made by Alex (watching)
SONIC speed-run competition on the Sega Mega Drive, fastest time = winner.
Rebecca (Paul`s daughter), Lenno & Sijmen all had best time: 29 seconds, so they played the final.
They were all very competitive, and had been practising all day for it.
Sijmen won from Lenno, and then Rebecca won from Sijmen!

Rebecca practising

and getting the 'winner' certificate and some Sonic goodies.

Mat had made a questionnaire with some difficult questions,
which you could fill in during the trade session.
Jens had 19 out of 20 questions correct, and won!
Sijmen had 15 correct and I had 18 (good at guessing...)
They also held a raffle-ticket-sale for charity: Starlight.
(which among many other things, buy videogames / systems  for children
 to play with while in hospital)
I surprisingly won the raffle draw!
I chose the Mario cartboard stand (see right. I think nobody understood
this choise ;-)  because the other prize was a boxed VCS...)
Hakan won the VCS.

SATURDAY EVENING

SHOW & TELL
Show & tell is all about telling about a special item you bought last year or share a nice story.

Keith with this very nice Odyssey. He is holding the overlay which you could/can put on your TV screen. There were also smaller overlays
included for smaller tv`s.

Sijmen told about meeting Mr. Atari from the 80`s. (sales manager from Atari benelux) which we bought some rare items from.

Alex explaining how he came to making Vectrex games.

Jens had bought an early PC cartridge: Crossfire.
He and Jens also told about meeting Ralph Baer in Pirmasins, Germany.

Jon brought an unreleased NES prototype:
"The way of the exploding fist"
They managed to get it in working condition to show here.
Hakan did a trade with Jon, so he was the lucky new owner of this.
After that, some more Guitar Hero.
THE TRIP TO BLACKPOOL PLEASURE BEACH
2 taxi`s took us to Blackpool
This is what we came for: The arcade!

There were many old cabinets which cost only 10 cents to play!!
We would love to have some of these in our living room...
Especially Space Invaders and Star Wars are wonderful.

The owner, a very friendly guy,  stayed open longer for us.

The longest two playing the small machine...
Okee. Lenno had this great (...) idea to do this 'SEX TESTER'
machine.

He wanted to do this, but then I had to do too.
After some hesitation I agreed. What could go wrong I thought.
Well, you will see that in the next picture...

Remember this is only a game!!

LENNO = CORRUPT
I was glad my picture failed, but then Alex was so kind to send me
this one. (grr) You can imagine what I heard the rest of the weekend...

ME = NYMPHOMANIAC!

JON = NEEDS HELP

RENE = CORRUPT

ALEX = INNOCENT

CHRIS = GAY

MAT = INNOCENT

    PEPIJN = SUPERSTUD.

He is happy with that outcome.

KEITH = LONELY

SIJMEN = ROMEO

HAKAN = CORRUPT

JENS = BASHFUL

JENS = SHY

JOHN = GAY

STEVE = CORRUPT

THE OWNER = CHEATER
HYPER OLYMPIC machine

The arcade closed, and they all decided to go to a café.
We, that is Alex, John, Sijmen and me, didn`t want to go there, so we went to another arcade.

For those of you who want to see me and Mr. A on video in the arcade, go here.
( made by John. We think he made a fun video of it )

The 'RAPID RIVER' - paddle as fast as you can.

I love this picture! Really shows strength.

Silly picture... the machine is called 'screamer' but I felt just a bit trembling.
 ór it was not working properly, or I can stand it.
Dancing Stage.

Sijmen & Alex playing 'Air Hockey'
Sportscar with video wall. Unfortunately it was out of order.
We joined the others in the 'STAR' cafe.
I pinched this nice photo from Jon.
SUNDAY

Already the last day! Scheduled today: Castle Crisis on the Atari XL and Pac-Man VS. on the Cube competitions.
Also the famous auction and the prize-givings.
BREAKFAST IN 'GUY'S'
A real English breakfast (veggie for us) with beans, eggs etc. to take us through the day.
CASTLE CRISIS on the Atari 800XL
Actually, I lost in the first round.
But Hakan was feeling unwell, and they wanted someone to sit
for him. So I volunteerd, thinking I would be out again soon...
but I wasn`t... I WON

THE FINALS: Chris - Jens B. - Alex - and Me.
Now this is what I like:
THE AUCTION
The left-over-items from the trade can be auctioned here. This is always a lot of fun.
Pepijn did the auctioneering this time, which was sometimes difficult for him, as he bid himself too.
Rene and Hakan had to leave to catch the ferry from Harwich.
So between autions, Jon gave him his prize for winning the
'Who wants to be a millionaire' quiz.
Alex had a special version of Spikes Circus for the auction.
He decided to give the money to the Starlight charity!
Very generous!!
Pepijn and Mat both wanted this! The amount rose and to make it more
tense, Jon and Alex placed in this auction some more special Vectrex items.

THE THINKER
MAT eventually won the auction at a staggering amount.
A Eurocon high!
Grand applaus for Mat also, as he will pay to the charity !!
PAC-MAN VS. competition
I love Pac-Man, but this is something else! 3 ghosts chase Pac-Man, who tries to gain as much points as he can.
If a ghost (other player) gets him, he is then Pac-Man. First to get 10.000 points is the winner.
Mat in winning position
THE PRIZE-GIVING
My certificate for the Castle Crisis competition
Mat (surprise surprise) won the award again for Pac-Man vs.
and Defender on the cocktail table.
He can just leave the award home next time, he always wins...
The Defender cocktail table.

And then the sad part: saying goodbye.
We drove off again at 15.30 H. to Hull, to take our journey home.

SNIF - BACK TO REALITY

We had a really enjoyable weekend and good fun and laughs!
Thanks to the organisers for all their work, planning it all, quizzes etc. etc.

We cannot wait until next year! (Netherlands)

See you all hopefully then, or sooner if you`re in
the neighbourhood.

Arriving at EUROPOORT
